Two children related to members of the Islamic State group (IS) were handed over on Tuesday to a British delegation by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Sources close to the SDF told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, The New Arab’s sister site, that the children were from a camp run by the Kurdish-led force in northeastern Syria, adding that the handover took place after a meeting with the British Deputy Consul in Erbil, Jimmy Hamill.

Abeer Elia, Joint Vice-President of the Department of Foreign Relations in the Autonomous Administration of north and east Syria, said that work will continue until all relatives of IS fighters are handed back to their countries and fully integrate in their societies.

At the end of last month, the SDF handed over to a German delegation 10 women and 27 children related to IS members. The women and children had been living in al-Hol and Roj camps in eastern Syria.

Some 50,000 Syrians and Iraqis are located in al-Hol. Nearly 20,000 of them are children while the rest are mostly women.

A nearby separate and heavily guarded section of the camp known as the “annex” is where about 2,000 women from 57 other countries are held, with about 8,000 children. The women in the annex are considered to be the most die-hard IS supporters.
