Terrorist Attack Targeting Pilgrims Foiled in Iraq

Baghdad Operations Commander Lieutenant General Ahmed Salim said three terrorist one of whom was wearing an explosive belt were killed in a preemptive operation in Tarimiya District north of Baghdad, Middle East News reported.

He said that there is intelligence indicating that the three members of the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorist group had planned to target pilgrims going to Kadhimiya to attend the mourning ceremonies marking the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Kadhim (AS).

The commander added that the Baghdad Operations Command units continue searching nearby areas to make sure there is no security issue.

Today is the 25th day of the lunar Hijri month of Rajab, which marks the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Kadhim (AS).

The Imam (AS) was poisoned and martyred on Rajab 25, 183 (September 5, 799 AD) in a prison in Baghdad.

Millions of devotees from different parts of Iraq as well as other countries like Iran have traveled to Kadhimiya to take part in rituals mourning the sad occasion.
