Two wounded in terror attack in central Israel

Two IDF soldiers were wounded in a terrorist stabbing attack in central Israel Tuesday morning.

The attack occurred near an army base in Tzrifin, outside of Rishon Letzion.

MDA and United Hatzalah emergency first responders were dispatched to scene, treating the victims before evacuating them to Shamir-Asaf HaRofeh Medical Center in Be’er Yaakov.

One of the soldiers is listed in serious condition. The other was lightly wounded in the attack.

“One of the victims was lying on the sidewalk, while the other victim was sitting next to him,” said MDA paramedic Moshe Gelbstein, noting that both of the soldiers were conscious.

“We provided them with medical first aid, including bandaging and stopping the bleeding. We then loaded them quickly onto mobile intensive care units and evacuated them to a nearby hospital while one victim was in serious condition and the other in light condition. Security forces at the scene neutralized the terrorist.”

United Hatzalah volunteer EMT Beni Meshulam, who came across the incident and alerted emergency services, said: “I was driving when I came across two young people who suffered from stabbing injuries. One was in serious condition while the other sustained mild injuries. Together with additional first responders, we provided them with initial treatment at the scene. They were then transported to the nearby Shamir Medical Center (Asaf Harofeh). Due to the nature of the incident, United Hatzalah’s Psychotrauma and Crisis Response Unit treated several people at the scene for emotional and psychological shock.”

One terrorist was neutralized by a civilian before being taken into custody by police. Authorities are investigating the possibility that a second terrorist may have been involved and fled the scene.

Hamas spokesman Abdul Latif al-Qanoua lauded the stabbing attack, saying: “We welcome the heroic stabbing attack as part of the ongoing response to Israel’s crimes, the aggression against the Al Aqsa Mosque, and the expected invasion tomorrow and the attempt to bring the [Pascal] sacrifice.”
