Attacker stab Jewish teacher in Marseille sparking fears of fresh wave of French terror attacks

It is unclear exactly where in the city the teacher was attacked, but the incident has sparked fears of a fresh wave of terrorist assaults across France.

A Jewish teacher has reportedly been stabbed in Marseille by three people claiming to be ISIS supporters.

The suspects, who were reportedly wearing ISIS badges, made anti-semitic comments before stabbing the teacher. They are believed to have asked the teacher if they were Jewish before stabbing them.

The victim’s life is not believed to be in danger following the stabbing.

The attack took place at the Yavne cultural centre in the north of the city, which doubles up as a school and synagogue.

The man, who was wearing a kippah, was targeted as he was leaving the building.

Local prosecutor Brice Robin said: “The professor was accosted in the street by three men riding scooters around 7.50pm.

“One of them wore a t-shirt with an Isis logo on it. Another showed him a picture of Mohamed Merah on a mobile phone.

“The three men then insulted, menaced and then stabbed the victim in the arm and the leg. They were disturbed by the arrival of a car and then fled.”

Merah was behind three gun attacks targeting French soldiers and Jewish civilians in Toulouse in 2012. In total, seven people were killed, and five others were injured, four seriously. The perpetrator was shot and killed after a 30-hour siege with police.

The stabbing today comes after the mastermind behind the Paris terror attacks Abdelhamid Abaaoud was killed in the St Denis siege according to reports.

Senior intelligence sources have told the Washington Post that Abaaoud, 29, is dead.

The confirmation was made after forensic experts went through the wreckage of a flat which was raided this morning in the St Denis area of Paris involving more than 100 policemen, intelligence sources told the newspaper.

Terror suspects in the flat fired 5000 rounds during the operation during which one person, a woman, blew herself up. She has not yet been identified.

Seven people, including a woman, were arrested by French cops – and two people were killed, the Paris prosecutor revealed this afternoon.
