Hamas, Hezbollah terrorists could enter US through southern border, report says

Federal officials are reportedly warning that members of international terror groups may enter the U.S. through its southern border.

In a memo to employees Friday, The San Diego Field Office Intelligence Division of Customs and Border Protection attributed the increased risk of such crossings to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, according to The Daily Caller. The war, officials reportedly said, could “inspire” travelers crossing into the country from the region.

“San Diego Field Office Intelligence Unit assesses that individuals inspired by, or reacting to the current Israel-Hamas conflict may attempt travel to or from the area of hostilities in the Middle East via circuitous transit across the Southwest border,” the memo reportedly reads.

The memo continues by noting that such individuals may be seeking money or ideological fulfillment, according to The Daily Caller.

“Foreign fighters motivated by ideology or mercenary soldiers of fortune may attempt to obfuscate travel to or from the US to or from countries in the Middle East through Mexico,” the memo reads, before listing the patches of Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah.

Signs that could indicate association to these groups, the memo reportedly claims, include a male of military age, single travelers and anyone wearing military gear. Customs agents are encouraged to ask questions about affiliation to military and government groups, as well as to Hamas, Hezbollah or the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

A representative for U.S. Customs and Border Patrol did not immediately respond to a request from The National Desk Monday asking to confirm the authenticity of the information.

Former President Donald Trump warned this month that terrorists could potentially infiltrate the U.S. through the southern border if the country continued to ignore its migrant crisis.
