Abdullah Orakzai, known as Aslam Farooqi, the leader of ISIS-khorasan terrorist group was arrested along with 19 of his men, Afghanistan’s National Directorate of Security (NDS) said in a statement on Saturday.
“Abdullah Orakzai, known as Aslam Farooqi, the leader of the ISIS-K terrorist group, was arrested along with 19 of his close associates, including Qari Zahed and Saifullah, known as Abu Talha-e Pakistani, during a targeted and complicated operation by special security forces,” said the statement.
According to the statement, Aslam Farooqi, in his initial confession, revealed the extensive connections of regional intelligence agencies with the ISIS-khorasan group.
He took over as ISIS-K head after the killing of his predecessor Abu Saeed Bajawri. Prior to that, he had been working as military chief of Peshawar city, ISIS commander in Abdul Kheil valley of Achin district and head of ISIS operations in Khyber Agency.
The militant leader had close ties with terrorist groups including Lashkar-e-Taiba and Haqqani network.
Based on a news and comprehensive plan, Afghan NDS seeks to target key leaders of regional and international terrorist networks that threaten Afghanistan’s national security.
