Lebanese forces arrested Islamic State terrorist planning to target Lebanese army forces in Beirut

The Internal Security Forces announced in a statement the elite units of its Information Branch arrested, on August 18, a terrorist ISIL planning to target the Lebanese army units and security forces in Gemmayze area in Beirut.

In details, the statement mentioned that a Syrian national, 20, planned to carry out terrorist attacks against the Lebanese army and security forces patrols in Beirut, adding he confessed that he attended, in 2016, an ISIL “religious” education course over 40 days before returning to Lebanon to join the militant organization’s groups.

After Beirut blast, he participated in cleaning the streets in Gemmayze area where he saw the Lebanese army and security forces patrols and got the idea of striking them, according to the statement which added that the terrorist planned to get bombs from one of the Palestinian camps in Lebanon.
