Syrian Kurdish security forces kill Iraqi ISIS leader in Syria

The Internal Security Forces Media (Asayish) on Thursday said they killed an Iraqi ISIS leader and arrested two ISIS suspects in Shaddadi, Syria.

The Asayish in a statement said the ISIS leader was killed when they came under fire during the operation, which was backed by the US-led coalition.

The Asayish said the Emir held the position of zakat (tax) in the southern region of ISIS and was planning to attack security forces.

The Asayish also seized a Kalashnikov weapon, 8 Kalashnikov magazines, an explosive belt with a detonator, and a hand grenade.

Although the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and coalition forces announced the territorial defeat of ISIS in Syria in March 2019, ISIS sleeper cells continue to pose a threat in the region.

The Internal Security Forces also arrested a suspected leader of an ISIS cell on Nov. 7 in Tel Kochar (al-Yaroubiya).
