Nearly fifteen Syrian soldiers killed and injured in Islamic State attack in the Syrian desert

SOHR sources have reported violent clashes on frontlines of al-Rasafa desert in al-Raqqah countryside between regime forces and ISIS members. These clashes, which were accompanied by exchange of bombardment, came as a part of ISIS attack on regime positions.

Meanwhile, Russian fighter jets were seen taking off from nearby airbases in order to participate in foiling ISIS attack which started this dawn. The clashes left five regime soldiers and loyal militiamen dead and eight others injured, while SOHR has yet to verify the number of casualties among ISIS members due to these clashes.

Yesterday, SOHR activists reported the death of a field commander of the Palestinian Liwaa al-Quds and other three members escorting him when a landmine planted earlier by ISIS exploded in Palmyra desert in the eastern countryside of Homs.

Since 24th of March 2019, SOHR has documented the killing of at least 1,498 regime soldiers and loyalists of Syrian and non-Syrian nationalities, including at least two Russians, and 153 Iranian-backed militiamen of non-Syrian nationalities. All were killed in attacks, bombings and ambushes by the “Islamic State”, west of Euphrates in the deserts of Deir Ezzor, al-Raqqah, Homs, al-Suwaidaa, Hama and Aleppo.

Also, four civilians working in gas fields, tens of shepherds and other civilians were killed and documented by SOHR in the same period, from late March 2019 until today. They were killed in attacks by ISIS cells. While 968 ISIS members were also killed in attacks and bombardment in the same period.
